I<\/strong> have realized when I am in a grumpy mood, I can go up the hill and visit Hyw\u00e4t at the Italian food restaurant, and before long I\u2019m laughing.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve got her trained so that when I put my napkin on my shoulder, she needs to come see what I want.\u00a0 The first time I did this she probably thought: \u00a0What\u2019s with this idiot now?\u00a0\u00a0It works well, only to a point, because she\u2019s still not fully trained. \u00a0As soon as I get through eating, she takes away my\u00a0napkin.\u00a0 Right off my shoulder.<\/p>\n

The other day I reminded her that her birthday is coming up. (March 17th<\/sup>) \u00a0I asked her how old she will be and she stated 20.\u00a0 I said, I thought you were 26!\u00a0 She had this ghastly look on her face like she found that offensive.\u00a0 Gee!\u00a0 If someone thought I was 26, I\u2019d be elated!<\/p>\n

The last time I was there, Terese stayed home.\u00a0 So to get a conversation going with her, I start asking about her medical schooling.\u00a0 She dragged a big book from behind the counter and showed it to me.\u00a0 The cover had a bunch of Ethiopian writing on it (an alphabet with over 200 characters and in existence before 3000 BC).\u00a0 It was her Pharmaceutical textbook.\u00a0 I looked it over and there was only one other book I\u2019ve seen in my life that was more confusing, –\u00a0 a book titled, 20,000 Chinese characters and their usage<\/i>.\u00a0 (The only thing in English was the copyright page)<\/p>\n

I asked her if she understood all this and with a big smile she replied Yes!\u00a0 The only pictures in it \u2013 something I can relate to – were drawings of tissue cross sections and molecular diagrams.\u00a0 I said, Hyw\u00e4t, I\u2019m an electrician and I can\u2019t understand any of this because it has no wiring diagrams.\u00a0 She pointed to some complex molecular structure and said, These are my wires!<\/p>\n

She has still yet to deliver her first baby.\u00a0 Something she has to do to graduate, and she’s dreading it.\u00a0 I told her when she does, we will give her a gift, because she helped bring a new life into the world.\u00a0 Then I told her, when she does deliver one, tell the mother to give it my name.\u00a0 She didn\u2019t react at all, like she\u2019s beginning to know when to ignore me.<\/p>\n

In a few weeks, I will have to go into Nigeria to do some work.\u00a0 I will fly in and out of Lagos.\u00a0 That airport is one of the most disorganized airports I have been in.\u00a0 I transited through it last year on my way to Niamey, Niger.\u00a0 My incoming flight arrived late and there was some character walking though the airport yelling something which made no sense.\u00a0 He walked right past me, before I realized he was calling my name for the next flight.\u00a0 I realized years ago, my name does not come out very clear when some people say it.\u00a0 It comes out as \u201cWannolt\u201d.<\/p>\n
