W<\/strong>ith my brother visiting, we ventured out beyond our safety zone.\u00a0 There are many one-day trips we can make beyond the city, yet we enjoy our backyard so much it\u2019s hard to get us away.<\/p>\n

Lake Tana in Northwestern Ethiopia, collects water from that area of the country and the Blue Nile drains it into the Nile (White Nile).\u00a0 It is one of the two major tributaries of the Nile.\u00a0 About an hour and a half drive from Addis, a section of it runs through a gorge, aptly called the Blue Nile Gorge.\u00a0 My brother and I drove there and took a mess of pics along the way.\u00a0 Below are a few.<\/p>\n

\"sIMG_1579\"<\/a>Along the road, we encountered many of these laborers.\u00a0 Where they were taking their load, we do not know.<\/p>\n

\"sIMG_1537\"<\/a>Another scene we saw everywhere outside the city, are the donkey drawn carts.<\/p>\n

\"sIMG_1576\"<\/a>We stopped at one location and was surrounded by people selling.\u00a0 Not begging, but selling.<\/p>\n

\"sIMG_1586\"<\/a>The area has many of the Gelada baboons.\u00a0 Unfortunately, we had a vehicle about to crawl up my bumper, so we were not able to stop and take better pictures of the little heathens.<\/p>\n

\"sIMG_1601\"<\/a>It was amazing to see so many people walking along the roads so far away from the city.\u00a0 Walking sticks and something on their backs, was the norm.\u00a0\u00a0 Many times we saw a small herd of animals, cattle & sheep, which had a lone individual watching them.\u00a0 Most of the time it was young kids.\u00a0 Male and female.<\/p>\n

\"sIMG_1643\"<\/a>One day, Terese joined us for a trip to one of the nearby craters.\u00a0 We did not have time to actually get to the site before we had to be back at the city before sundown.\u00a0 But the drive was incredible.\u00a0 I never realized how beautiful Ethiopia was.<\/p>\n

\"sIMG_1875\"\"sIMG_1882\"<\/a>On a Friday afternoon, several people from the Embassy decided to go to the top of Entoto mountain to watch the sunset.\u00a0 My brother has two passions among many, sunrise and sunset.\u00a0 We went with them and again, the beauty was priceless.\u00a0 Addis is about 8000 feet.\u00a0 The top of the mountain was 10,375.\u00a0 It was a bit windy on top as you would imagine.\u00a0 The pictures below are from the sunset side.<\/p>\n

\"sIMG_1705\"<\/a>\"sIMG_1713\"<\/a>Then the sun slithered down leaving a smear in the sky.<\/p>\n

\"sIMG_1738\"<\/a>\"sIMG_1750\"<\/a>\"sIMG_1761\"<\/a>\"sIMG_1776\"<\/a>Then a quick picture of the city of Addis below before heading down.<\/p>\n

\"sIMG_1809\"<\/a>And to keep you in love with Africa, nature gives us little critters that make you smile.\u00a0 Here is a picture of a little bird in our backyard.<\/p>\n
