(omniscience)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>M<\/strong>y wife, being an adopted little one has no information on her ancestry.\u00a0 Back in November, I saw where you can have your DNA analyzed to find out your heritage and a bit more.\u00a0 So, we purchased a kit and since they gave a 20% discount on a second one, I opted to have mine done also.<\/p>\n<p>I received my results back shortly after Christmas and found my heritage was mostly European; which I already knew, since both of my parent&#8217;s ancestry came from Europe at one place or another.\u00a0 But the information also revealed a great deal of health and human trait info.\u00a0 Just a sampling of mine:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Male (absolutely correct)<\/li>\n<li>Likely brown eyes (close enough)<\/li>\n<li>Straighter hair than average (correct)<\/li>\n<li>Decreased odds of male pattern baldness (my wife says I have a blonde spot)<\/li>\n<li>Not Malaria resistant (damn!)<\/li>\n<li>Likely O type blood (correct)<\/li>\n<li>Greater tendency to overeat (no argument)<\/li>\n<li>And I am much less efficient at learning to avoid erors (surely not!)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It also lists information on how susceptible I am to various hereditary diseases, medications and bad habits.\u00a0 No need to go into that here.\u00a0 Suffice to say I need to watch for things that may crop up in life.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after sending in our spit samples, the all-knowing FDA, with its common sense reasoning, decided companies like the one we purchased our kit from, should not be giving us our health information.\u00a0 So anyone purchasing a kit after that time would only receive their ancestry and not the health info.\u00a0 We were in the grandfathered section sort of speak, so we got the whole nine yards.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u2026\u00a0 D\u00e9j\u00e0 vu?<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 303px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"  \" alt=\"File:DNA Structure+Key+Labelled.pn NoBB.png\" src=\"http:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/4\/4c\/DNA_Structure%2BKey%2BLabelled.pn_NoBB.png\/615px-DNA_Structure%2BKey%2BLabelled.pn_NoBB.png\" width=\"293\" height=\"285\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">from Wikipedia<\/p><\/div>\n<p>As I scan through all the information, ancestry, health issues, traits and nuances; I realize the information given is well above my IQ grade.\u00a0 There are words I&#8217;ve never heard.\u00a0 Ever hear the word: genome? Or haplogroup?
